FEA/CAE Engineer

Description

Structural, dynamic, and modal analyses

Description

Deltamed, one of the leading manufacturers of ambulances and special intervention vehicles in Europe, is developing its engineering and numerical simulation capabilities and is looking for a colleague with experience in analyzing and validating the behavior of mechanical structures.

We are looking for an FEA/CAE Engineer with solid experience in numerical simulations, capable of translating engineering problems into relevant analysis models and using the results to improve design solutions.

Location: Gilău, Cluj – Deltamed
Department: Production Preparation
Working hours: Monday–Friday, 07:00–15:40, on-site
Position type: Full-time

Job Purpose

Providing analysis, simulation, and evaluation of the structural behavior of mechanical components and assemblies developed within Deltamed projects, using FEA/CAE methods to verify the strength, rigidity, stability, and dynamic behavior of the products.

The role involves responsibility for the entire analysis process, from defining the engineering problem and preparing CAD geometry to building the numerical model, running simulations, interpreting results and formulating design recommendations. The position offers a high level of technical autonomy and the opportunity to build and standardize internal FEA/CAE simulation methodology.

Main responsibilities

FEA/CAE Analysis and Modeling

  • Analyzes functional requirements and identifies appropriate simulation methods for each engineering problem;
  • Prepares and simplifies CAD geometries for use in numerical simulations;
  • Build FEA models from scratch for mechanical components and assemblies;
  • Creates the mesh and determines the type, size and distribution of the elements, checking the quality of the discretization;
  • Defines material properties, contacts, connections, boundary conditions and load cases;
  • Establish the acceptance criteria and the checks required for evaluating the results.

Structural and dynamic simulations

  • Performs linear and non-linear structural analysis, depending on project requirements;
  • Perform dynamic and explicit simulations, including impact analysis where necessary;
  • Perform modal, vibration, and transient analyses;
  • Perform parametric and sensitivity studies to assess the influence of geometry, materials and loading conditions;
  • It uses Ansys LS-DYNA as the main solver for dynamic and explicit analyses.

Post-processing and interpretation of results

  • Post-process the results using LS-PrePost, Ansys Mechanical or other relevant tools;
  • Analyzes stresses, strains, displacements, forces, accelerations, energies and contact behavior;
  • Identifies critical areas, potential failure mechanisms and risks associated with constructive solutions;
  • Evaluates deliverables against design requirements and acceptance criteria;
  • Identify and investigate numerical instabilities, errors, and artifacts that may affect the validity of simulations;
  • Formulates clear technical conclusions and recommendations for design teams.

Verification and validation

  • Check the robustness and consistency of numerical models;
  • Perform convergence checks and sensitivity studies, depending on the type of analysis;
  • Work with the testing teams to correlate simulation results with experimental results;
  • Take part in defining the physical tests needed to validate design solutions;
  • Investigate differences between numerical and experimental results and contribute to model calibration, when needed.

Optimization of design solutions

  • Identify design improvement opportunities based on simulation results;
  • Propose changes to geometry, thicknesses, stiffeners, materials and joining solutions;
  • Evaluate the trade-offs between mass, stiffness, mechanical strength and performance;
  • Carry out comparative analyses and parametric studies to support design decisions;
  • Work with design engineers to implement and verify the proposed solutions.

Development and standardization of the FEA/CAE process

  • Contribute to the development of internal analysis and simulation methodologies;
  • Document procedures, assumptions, acceptance criteria and modeling best practices;
  • Develop reusable libraries of materials, models and configurations;
  • Standardize the processes for geometry preparation, meshing and model definition;
  • Develop simulation verification and validation procedures;
  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline the analysis process.

Candidate profile

Requirements

  • University degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, industrial engineering, applied sciences or related technical fields;
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in FEA/CAE;
  • Hands-on experience building FEA models from scratch, including geometry preparation, discretization and definition of simulation parameters;
  • Solid knowledge of meshing and mesh quality checking;
  • Experience in structural and dynamic analysis;
  • Proven experience using Ansys LS-DYNA;
  • Solid knowledge of mechanics of materials, strength of materials, structural mechanics, dynamics and vibrations;
  • Ability to critically interpret simulation results and identify possible numerical issues;
  • Ability to work independently, structure complex engineering problems and propose appropriate analysis methods;
  • Good command of English, written and spoken.

Good to have

  • Experience with LS-PrePost and/or Ansys Mechanical / Workbench;
  • Experience in impact and crash simulations;
  • Experience in modal analysis, vibrations and transient phenomena;
  • Experience correlating FEA results with physical tests;
